August
2007 — AIGA Minnesota has awarded its distinguished
Fellow Award to Tim Larsen, president and founder of Larsen
Design. The Fellow
award program is a means of recognizing designers who have made
significant contributions to raising the standards of excellence
in practice and conduct within their local or regional design community,
as well as in their local AIGA chapter. The areas of education,
writing, leadership and reputation, as well as the practice of
design, are given equal consideration in measuring significant
contribution.
Larsen is the president of Larsen Design, which he founded in 1975.
He has been a champion of graphic design excellence, mentoring
countless professionals and bringing the power of great design
to leading Minnesota and national businesses. Larsen has served
on the national board of AIGA and was a founding member of the
Minnesota chapter. He currently serves on the College of Visual
Arts board of directors and on the University of Minnesota College
of Design advisory board. He has taught graphic design at the Minneapolis
College of Art and Design. Larsen has a B.S. degree in education/graphic
design from Minnesota State University (MSU) Moorhead, and in September
he will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater.
Peter Seitz is the only other recipient of a Fellow Award from
AIGA Minnesota, which he received in 2000. AIGA launched the program
nationally in 1999.
All chapter-nominated 2007 Fellows will be announced
at the Design
Legends Gala in New York on September 19, and the
Minnesota celebration of Tim Larsen will occur at a dinner in February
2008 in the Twin Cities. Details to come.
